My Europe is an interactive digital series of events that invites its guests to discover Europe.

Young people from various countries talk aboit Europe and their personal topics of interest. The topics are as diverse as the speakers and can range from current political and social developments through culture and science to one’s own commitment to greater tolerance or solidarity. In addition to the given topic, all participants can also vote live on other topics and ask questions on the evening itself.

On 27 September, Sabine Kerssens will take the audience on a virtual journey to the Netherlands

Sabine will present her research on deep tech startups and her country.

Sabine Kerssens, a Dutch systems engineer, is pursuing research in collaboration with Karlspreis Aachen. She has lived in the Netherlands, Italy and Switzerland, and attended conferences with over 160 nationalities. For 3,5 years she’s been studying how the Dutch economy is developing, specifically focussing on startups. The past year she’s connecting with the Karlspreis network to understand effective European commercialization of academic innovation.

The Netherlands has a relatively high number of startups, however, compared internationally they more often fail to scale up their business. World-changing technologies and ideas are failing due to lack of capital, shortages of the right talent to drive the technology forward, insufficient demand, or all of the above. One aspect remains underexposed: the Dutch culture.

Where does the Dutch startups ecosystem stand? Which are the bottlenecks and the thriving sectors? How can we learn from each other and improve entrepreneurship in Europe?

In this episode we answer these questions with data and show you the big picture.

How does the online discussion work technically?

On the day of the event, you can join the event a few minutes before it starts. At the online event, you will not be seen or heard in person. Instead, you can enter your questions and comments via keyboard and the moderator will pass the questions on to the speakers. If necessary, the microphones of the guests will also be activated to allow questions directly via audio.
